Product
Engineering
for startups
and SMEs.

Engineering and product decisions are too connected to treat separately. I write code. I also think about your users, your roadmap, and your business goals.

Services

01
Situation

Technical decisions made early tend to stay in place. A poor stack choice or an underspecified system boundary will slow delivery for months.

↓
Approach

Architecture & Strategy

System design, stack selection, and technical roadmapping. Decisions are based on your current stage, team size, and constraints. Trade-offs are made explicit so they can be revisited when circumstances change.

02
Situation

Code written for speed tends to become harder to maintain. The same feature that took a day in month one can take a week in month six.

↓
Approach

Full-Stack Development

End-to-end implementation across backend, frontend, and database layers. I write with the future maintainer in mind. Structure and naming are deliberate.

03
Situation

A deployment process that lives in someone's head is unreliable. Steps get skipped, environments diverge, and the process becomes fragile when someone leaves.

↓
Approach

Infrastructure & DevOps

Server setup, containerization, edge infrastructure, and automated deployment pipelines. The deployment process is treated as code — versioned, reproducible, and not dependent on any individual.

04
Situation

There is a significant gap between what AI sounds like it can do and what it reliably does in production. Features built on a misread of that tend to fall short or fail in use.

↓
Approach

AI Enablement

Model evaluation, prompt design, and maintainable integrations into your product or workflow. Before any implementation, I work out what current models can actually do for your specific use case. The integration is built to remain maintainable as models change.

Background

Founder

Hi, I'm Johannes.

I'm a software engineer and architect based in Vienna, working with startups and small businesses on the engineering side of building products. My work covers architecture, full-stack development, and the infrastructure that keeps things running.

I started studying Software and Information Engineering at TU Wien in 2019 and completed my Bachelor's degree in 2022. Since then I've taken on roles with increasing technical scope: first as a Software Architect and Backend Engineer at Brainhero GmbH, a medtech company working under EU MDR, and more recently as Co-Founder and CTO of ophlyne, a marketplace for leisure activities in Vienna that I've been building since early 2025.

Working on your own product at the same time changes how you approach client work. The questions are often the same: what to prioritize, where complexity is worth taking on, and when a technical decision is really a product decision.

What I find most interesting is the path from a working implementation to something that actually serves the people it was built for. Most of the decisions along that path are not purely technical.

If you think I could be a good fit for your project, feel free to reach out.
